Meditations on Time and Nature
by Joseph Colwell
This collection of 28 essays and 9 poems was published in 2016, Joseph continues with his meditative and spiritual essays on nature published in Canyon Breezes (Lichen Rock Press, 2015). He reflects more on the aspects of time and nature, both geologic time and a personal journey to the his own past. Influenced by the geology of Utah and Colorado, Joseph reflects on the role time plays in the world we live in, from the environments of the West, to the depths of the solar system.
Sing a note of joy as you watch the full moon rise over the eastern horizon. Whisper a heartfelt thank you and goodbye as you watch the sun sink below the western sky. Think about what time means to nature and what nature does to time. What is time? What lessons can we learn from the time of dinosaurs and our own past? Can we feel the past in the star-filled skies and in the title to our own homes? From the hidden canyons of the Colorado Plateau, to the mysteries of the seashore, to personal visits to his own past, Joseph relates how time and nature affect each other.

THE STORIES
Behind the Stories
"Whether he is cleaning out an old cabin or pondering a headstone on the windswept prairie, Joe connects us with sensitivity to those who have gone before us. His insightful questions help me to ponder and reflect upon my own place in the flow of things. His word paintings share his deep love and awe for the beauty and wonder of the West. This is a book that I will read and re-read, and share with friends." Jan J. in Montana
"If you aren't familiar with the writings of Joseph Colwell, now is the time to start. Joe has a way with words that will place you right there in the story. I love his down to earth easy reading style. Joe's love of nature is so brilliantly captured in his writings. I look forward to enjoying each and every one of his books." Anne M. in Illinois
"Truly, the verbiage used...assimilates the voices within nature. Your book seems to capture that flow --- from nature through the soul, out as words." Sara in Utah.
"Loved this book! The author took me on a different journey each day with his reflections of time. His passion for Colorado, the land and his own past kept me interested from cover to cover. Looking forward to more of his writing." Donna in South Carolina.
